Candidate summary biography – Caron Sugars FGIA, FCG, CA(SA), GAICD

Caron is the Partner in charge of KPMG Perth’s Governance, Risk and Controls divisions as well as the Partner in charge of KPMG’s Board Advisory Services nationally.

With 24 years professional experience in commerce, governance, risk management, external and internal audit, Caron re-joined KPMG in 2007 after spending four years in senior finance and Company Secretary roles with private and two listed entities. Working with Boards and shareholders has given Caron a solid grounding in governance and risk.

Caron sits on the WA Council for the Governance Institute of Australia and has been a Course Director for the Post Graduate Governance Diploma in Risk Management. In addition, Caron takes pleasure in presenting certification and other courses on a regular basis.

Outside of KPMG, Caron is a Director on the Special Air Services Resources Trust Board and her recent past Board role was as a Director for the Women’s Legal Centre of WA.

Qualifications: Bachelor of Accounting Science, University of South Africa; Honours Accounting Science, University of South Africa; Diploma in Auditing, University of Capetown.

Candidate summary Biography – Troy Williams FGIA, FCG

Troy’s recent experience includes Non-Executive Director, Chief Financial Officer, governance and management consultant across multiple disciplines. Prior roles include company secretariat and senior executive roles across the retail sector.

Troy is the current Chair of the WA Council for Governance Institute of Australia, having served two consecutive terms. He is also a Governance Institute of Australia representative on the eCommunity Steering Group at The Chartered Governance Institute; Vice President and Non-Executive Director, Perth Chapter at Association of Certified Fraud Examiners; and Mentor, Business Career Mentor Program at the University of South Australia.

Troy’s commitment to the Governance Institute of Australia is exemplary. He has been a WA councillor since 2013 and has acted as Deputy Chair (2016); Member, National Communications Committee (Nov 2016 – April 2020); Past Course Director, Corporate Accountability: Meetings & Disclosure; Facilitator various post graduate and certificated courses throughout Western Australia. Troy’s experience provides him with practical insight into the many opportunities for the organisation.

Qualifications: Bachelor of Business (marketing), University of South Australia; Graduate Diploma in Applied Corporate Governance, Governance Institute of Australia.
