Having a new recruit coming into your team always brings a sense of excitement and expectation, but when you’re bringing a new hire into a distributed team environment it can present a whole host of challenges many have not encountered prior to COVID-19.
For many, we’ve traditionally approached inductions and onboarding face-to-face with a clear process and plenty of time for colleagues to get to know each other over a coffee or lunch. In a distributed environment, onboarding processes need to be adapted and new principles will need to be established.
The main goal of onboarding remains — to prepare your recruit for their new role and make them feel welcome — but the delivery is a whole new experience.
