Child safety: Are you meeting your obligations?

  • Organisations that do not have an explicit statutory obligation still have a duty to ensure the provision of a healthy and safe work environment for staff, volunteers and consumers —including those aged under 18.
  • Child safety risk should be represented on all enterprise risk registers at some point in time, with organisations assessing these risks appropriately looking at both operational and abuse risk.

Compliance and obligations registers are one of the primary governance instruments used to direct the lawful conduct of an organisation. These registers provide clarity of specific powers, duties, and functions of an organisation (and its leaders). Understanding the consequences in the event of failure is at the heart of decision making.
