We had just launched our dates for 2021 (1‒2 September), booked in more than 45 speakers and were excited to have secured one of Australia’s best and newest venues — the International Conference Centre (ICC Sydney).
But you know what comes next.
With several cities clearly in for a battle with this stubborn strain of COVID-19 and lingering lockdowns, we decided it was time for decisive action to remove the ‘should we/ shouldn’t we’ question mark over whether we were going to persist with the face-to-face format or move to be purely virtual.
It was determined that the Governance Institute’s 39th National Conference will be a completely virtual event.
Making this call swiftly, before we got too close to the event, removes so much uncertainty for our community and allows Governance Institute to get on with the business at hand: creating two days of inspiring, insightful, and practical sessions.
And we think the imperative for this event has never been more serious.
Risk management and governance issues have surged to the top of the agenda. Planning and crisis management are key and governance failure a real risk for many organisations that do not prioritise accordingly.
In fact, we feel so strongly on the importance of these issues in the current climate that a decision has also been made to purposefully lower National Conference ticket prices to encourage more in our community to attend and be appropriately equipped for not just the year ahead, but the next five years.
The new registration fee for the two-day virtual event will now be $295 for members, down from $1,500. This is clearly a significant change to our initial planning and pricing but done with the intention that it will encourage teams, colleagues and the broader business community to attend.
At Governance Institute, our vision is to ‘strengthen society through governance excellence,’ and that’s precisely what we must focus on in these times when our community is in the spotlight like never before.
For the many people who had already purchased face-to-face or virtual tickets at the original rates, our team will have been in touch regarding this update to amend your pricing and ticket types. However, if you have any questions at all, please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
We think it’s the best ticket in town and hope to see you — virtually — there. You can view the full program here.
