Q&A with incoming Governance Institute of Australia Chair, Pauline Vamos

  • A non-executive director, lawyer and governance expert, Pauline Vamos has just been announced as Governance Institute of Australia’s new Chair.
  • As a former senior regulator with ASIC and former CEO of the Association of Superannuation Funds of Australia (ASFA) and Regnan, Ms Vamos arrives at Governance Institute with strong credentials.
  • We asked Ms Vamos what she is most looking forward to in her new role, as well as what she sees as the key challenges currently being faced by the governance and risk management profession.

What are you most excited about as the new Chair of Governance Institute?

Governance Institute is a leader of governance conversations. I am thrilled to be invited to chair an organisation that can raise the standard of those conversations, create an exceptional pipeline of governance specialists, and strengthen society by influencing the sustainability of organisations from all sectors.

Our world is changing exponentially, and Governance Institute must respond to this. I believe the debate is settled on whether governance, good or bad, can have an impact on the sustainability and value of an organisation. What good governance looks like and how to achieve it, is an ongoing debate — no one size fits all and the answers today may not apply in tomorrow’s environment. I am excited to be part of finding the answers as Chair of Governance Institute.
